Welcoming call

All new members have the option to be connected with someone from our Welcoming Team, by consent. This would be a volunteer in a similar family situation, to share experiences and answer questions. For many people it’s one of our most valuable member benefits.

We offer every new member one-to-one contact with another member in similar family circumstances. This is either over the phone or via Zoom and we know that new members can find this a really valuable opportunity, because it gives a glimpse into what life could be like. Often, this can be the first time that new members have spoken to anyone about using or potentially using donor conception.

The welcoming call is a dedicated space for asking questions and hearing another person’s personal experience. For prospective parents, hearing about a successful journey to parenthood can be very reassuring. And for parents, hearing about somebody whose children are older and finding out about the ways that others have managed to talk about donor conception is also helpful.

Our welcoming service is offered to all new members and the welcoming member is a volunteer giving their own time. We are very grateful to those who give their time to help other families – we couldn’t do it without you.

“We had a a telephone call with [the welcomer] last night and I have to sing her praises! She answered all of my questions thoroughly and has given us an understanding of how donor conception is in the real world. Bonus – it’s really not as scary as we first thought!”
